Essential oil of Bergamot is pressed from the rind of the bitter orange tree. This is NOT the orange we eat, which is known as Sweet Orange. Bergamot has been used as a folk remedy for indigestion and urinary tract infections in Italy for hundreds of years. The scent of Bergamot is extremely uplifting. It can be used for depression, anxiety, irritability, and frustration. Bergamot helps people to release pent-up anger and all the issues which accompany it. One can simply inhale the exhilarating fragrance straight from the bottle, or use it in an aromalamp to scent a room. Bergamot is also a great boon to the skin. It treats oily skin, acne, psoriasis, and eczema. It reduces itching and irritation from insect bites as well as repelling the insects themselves. It is antibacterial and can be used in a Sitz bath for urinary tract infections. Like all citrus oils, Bergamot is photosensitive and should never be used straight on the skin. Always dilute Bergamot in a high quality carrier oil such as Grapeseed oil, Jojoba oil, or Sesame oil. |
