It takes place on the winter solstice, which most of us would immediately peg as December 21. Most of the symbology for this time of year comes from the northern tribes, such as the Celts and the Teutonics. There are a lot of evergreens and things that grow on evergreens. The yule log is actually a year-long ritual during which the decorated tree from one yule is prepared, including being soaked in several different alcoholic beverages, for use as the yule log the following yule, when it is lit at sunset and burned until sunrise. Yule symbolized the return to the light and celebrates peace, love, and positive energy. |
